Jumping worms (Amynthas spp.) have been reported in New York State but to what extent is unknown at this time. Their voracious appetite changes the soil structure by disrupting the natural decomposition in the soil leaving grainy, dry worm casting (excrement) behind which can no longer support understory plants in the forest and ornamental plantings and lawns.
