Re: Notice of 2020 Bridge Construction and Closure
Columbia Co. Rte. 21 over tributary to Agawamuck – Hillsdale
Date: May 1, 2020
Please be advised that due to significant and worsening structural deterioration, the 90+ year-old County structure, carrying Columbia Co. Rte. 21 over a tributary to the Agawamuck Creek, will be closing later this spring for the complete replacement of the bridge. This bridge replacement work will require the full closure of the bridge during its replacement and a temporary off-site detour will be established for use by local Co. Rte. 21 traffic. This detour will traverse Columbia Co. Rte. 21, Columbia Co. Rte. 7, NYS Rte. 203 and NYS Rte. 22, and will be fully signed by the County’s project contractor.
As we approach final scheduling/discussion with our project contractor, we will be able to finalize an exact closure date for the bridge and communicate that date to the local media and other affected parties. As of now, we anticipate the contractor to begin bridge work at this location in approximately early June, with the expected culvert replacement work duration and bridge closure being approximately 4-5 months long. We thank you for your cooperation and patience in the Columbia Co. DPW’s ongoing efforts to replace and upgrade its aging highway infrastructure.
