- Meetings: Third wednesday of Month 7:00 p.m.
The Austerlitz Town Board on August 17 of last year adopted a resolution committing ourselves to doing our part to fight climate change and to become a Climate Community. Climate Communities is a network of New York communities engaged in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving climate resilience.
There are two main objectives of the Climate Community Committee:
1.First, to identify ways in which town operations might reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The goal of the committee is to identify emission reduction opportunities and ways in which these actions could be funded.
2.Secondly, to identify ways in which town residents, businesses and agriculture might reduce their greenhouse emissions. Any recommendations from this objective would be advisory only. The committee is not chartered with mandating any action to the town or its residents. In addition, no changes to our zoning laws are expected from these efforts.
The Committee, which meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm in the Town Hall, is actively working on initiatives to install an electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot of the new town hall and getting the street lights in town converted to LED.
Other efforts are underway as well including a review of the Comprehensive Plan by CPOC to see if updates are appropriate there.
Come join the committee if you’d like to help fight climate change right here in Austerlitz!
